James Bond Moonraker (1979)

Moonraker is a classic James Bond movie that was released in 1979. This spy-fi film was the 11th installment in the James Bond series and the fourth to feature Roger Moore as the iconic MI6 agent, James Bond. Directed by Lewis Gilbert, the film co-stars a talented ensemble cast including Lois Chiles, Michael Lonsdale, Corinne Cléry, and Richard Kiel.

The movie revolves around Bond’s investigation into the theft of a Space Shuttle, which leads him to Hugo Drax, the owner of the shuttle’s manufacturing firm. With the help of space scientist Dr. Holly Goodhead, Bond embarks on a journey from California to Venice, Rio de Janeiro, the Amazon rainforest, and finally into outer space to prevent a sinister plan to destroy the world population and create a master race.

Moonraker was one of the costliest James Bond movies at the time, with a production budget of $34 million. Despite mixed reviews, the film’s visual effects were praised, leading to a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The movie became the highest-grossing James Bond film at the time, earning $210.3 million worldwide and held the record until 1995’s GoldenEye.

This film marked Bernard Lee’s final appearance as M. He was scheduled to reprise his role in the next film, For Your Eyes Only, but unfortunately, he passed away in January 1981 before filming his scenes.

In the movie, James Bond is tasked with investigating the hijacking of a Moonraker Space Shuttle. Throughout the film, Bond encounters a cast of memorable characters, including the mercenary assassin Jaws and the charming Dr. Holly Goodhead. He also uncovers a sinister plan to destroy human life and travels to exotic locations to prevent it from happening.
